Last year, photographers Philip Kirkman and Shannon McLaughlin had such great success with their NYC Taxi Drivers Beefcake Calendar that they decided to create another one for 2015, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the NYC-based University Settlement.

HAVE YOU HEARD TODAY:
Three great releases to share, two that just came out today. Rhye, the R&B duo that everyone more often than not mistakes for a girl, put out this new track today. It’s not as sweepingly grandiose as “Open”, but it’s a beautiful song composed of soft strings, Milosh’s impeccable falsetto, and a rising swell of hazy, dreamy sounds.
Much to the elation of several fangirls around the world, Lorde released a new track she wrote specifically for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. After her flawless cover of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” on the Catching Fire OST, I couldn’t wait for her to put out an original song in the vein of Katniss and the general concept of the film. Lorde is actually curating the whole soundtrack, but considering how top notch the last two soundtracks already were, I didn’t need another reason to buy this OST once it becomes available. Maybe it’s the fangirl blinders, but this song is already getting the repeat treatment.
Cold War Kids released “First” about a month ago as the second single to their upcoming album Hold My Home. The album was apparently produced in San Jose, which warms my heart knowing some good things do come out of this godforsaken town. I’m definitely feeling this track more than their first single “All This Could be Yours”; whatever, I’m a sucker for that catchy drum line.
